Artist | EDGAR DEGAS | Degas painted several portraits of his family while staying in New Orleans. His brother Rene has married his cousin, the young, blind widow Estelle Balfour. When this work was pained she was heavily pregnant with her fourth child, Jeanne, to whom Degas became godfather. | ||
