July 18, 1871 Giacomo Balla is born in Turin, in the Piedmont region of Italy

1880 Begins to work in a lithograph print shop

1891 Studies painting at local academies

1895 Moves to Roma. Gets married to Elisa Marcucci

1899 His work is shown at the Venice Biennale

1910 Joins the Futurists. Begins designing and painting Futurist furniture. Created Futurist "antineutral" clothing

1913–1916 Goes beyond the principles of the Futurist manifestos, painting pictures that approach pure abstraction

1914 Begins sculpting

1931 Reverts to an Impressionist-figurative style

1935 He is made a member of Rome's Accademia di San Luca

March 1, 1958 Dies in Roma
