Chronology

19 October 1882 Umberto Boccioni is born in Reggio Calabria, Italy            

1897 Moves to Catania, Sicily with his father

1898 Goes to Rome, where he studies design with a sign painter and attends the Scuola Libera del Nudo at the Accademia di Belle Arti . Meets Severini and also Balla           

1905 Participates in the Mostra dei rifiutati, Rome            

1906 Travels to Paris, where he studies Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting. Participates in the Esposizione di belle arti, Rome            

1906 Visits Padua and then moves to Venice

1907 Takes drawing classes at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Venice

1908 Settles in Milan            

1909 - 1910 Begins to frequent the Famiglia Artistica, a Milanese artistà society that sponsored annual exhibitions            

1910 Participates in the formulation of the two Futurist manifestos Manifesto dei pittori futuristi and Manifesto tecnico della pittura futurista            

1911 Goes to Paris, where he meets Pablo Picasso and Guillaume Apollinaire through Severini            

1912 Paintings are shown with those of Carrà, Russolo, and Severini in the first Futurist show in Paris, at the Galerie Bernheim-Jeune            

1912 Concentrates on sculpture, and his Manifesto tecnico della scultura futurista is published            

1913 Shows sculpture and paintings in a solo show at the Galerie de la Boétie in Paris, and his sculpture is included in the inaugural exhibition of the Galleria Futurista Permanente in Rome            

1912 - 1914 Contributes articles to the Futurist publication Lacerba            

1915 Enlists in the army with Marinetti, Russolo, and Antonio Sant?Elia            

1916 Suffers an accident during cavalry exercises in Sorte near Verona, and dies on August 17
