August 5, 1860 Henri-Jean Guillaume Martin is born in Toulouse

1877 Goes to the Toulouse School of the Fine Arts

1879  After winning the Grand Prix, moves to Paris where a scholarship enables him to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under Jean Paul Laurens            

1880 Exhibits at the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris            

1883 Awarded his first medal at the Paris Salon            

1885 Wins a trip to Italy where he studies masters Giotto and Masaccio and, shedding his earlier academic approach, turned almost exclusively to landscape painting upon his return to France            

1889 Submits a Pointillist style painting to La Fete de la Federation where he is presented with a gold medal            

1892 Exhibits in the first Salon de la Rose Croix            

1893 Features work in the Munich Secessionist exhibition            

1896 Exhibits in La Libre Esthetique in Brussels; named Chevalier of the Legion of Honour            

1898 Features work in the Vienna Secessionist exhibition            

1900 Wins the grand prize at the Exposition Universelle            

1914 Named Commander of the Legion of Honour            

1918 Becomes a member of the Institute            

November 12, 1943 Dies near Cahors
