23 November 1862 Théo (Théophile) van Rysselberghe is born in Ghent to a French-speaking bourgeois family

1879 Studies at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels under the directorship of Jean-François Portaels

1882 and 1888 Makes three trips to Morocco, staying there a total of one year and half

1883 Exhibits scenes of everyday Mediterranean life at the salon L'Essor in Brussels

1883 Goes to Haarlem to study the light in the works of Frans Hals. Becomes a co-founder of the Belgian artistic circle Les XX

1887 Spends summer in Batignolles, near Paris, where he meets several painters from the Parisian scene such as Sisley, Signac, Degas and especially Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

1889 Marries Marie Monnom. Meets Theo Van Gogh and Vincent Van Gogh

1895 Makes long journeys to Athens and Constantinople, Hungary, Romania, Moscow and Saint Petersburg in order to make posters for the "Compagnie des Wagons-lits"

1897 Moves to Paris

1922 Has solo show at the Galerie Georges Giroux, Brussels

14 December 1926 Dies in Saint-Clair
