Maurice de Vlaminck (1876 – 1958)

Chronology

1876 Maurice de Vlaminck is born in Paris, April

1879 He settles the western Parisian suburb of Le Vésinet with his musician parents

1894  Gets married  to Suzanne Berly (had many children)

1896 – 1899 Military service. After the war, he earns money giving music lessons and as a bicycle courier

1900 Meets Monet and befriends André Dérain

1904 He is exhibited in the Galerie Berthe Weill in Paris where he meets Matisse and others of his circle

1905 Showed at the Salon des Indépendants. Later that year his work is included in the famous cage aux fauves at the Salon d?Automne in the company of Matisse, Marquet, Dérain, Rouault, Manguin, Camoin, Puy and Friesz.

1911 Vlaminck travels to London and paints by the Thames

1913 He paints with Derain in Marseille and Martigues

1919 Exhibited at Druet and later is represented in a number of Exhibitions devoted to Fauvism

1951 Exhibited at the Musée Nationale d?Art Moderne de Paris

1952 – 1953 Exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York

1955 Honoured by his family?s country of origin with his election as a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium

1957 Exhibited at the Musée Nationale d?Art Moderne de Paris

 1958 Dies: in Rueil-la-Gadeliere, France on October 11th
