23 October 1852 Jean-Louis Forain is born in Reims, Marne

1860 Family moves to Paris

1870 Begins to paint in the studio of André Gill

1879 - 1884 Participates in the Impressionists exhibitions

1887 - 1890 Becomes a prolific and famous contributor of satirical drawings of Parisian life and later political satire to Le Courrier Français, Le Figaro and other papers

1890 First one-man exhibition at the Galerie Boussod-Valadon, Paris

1891 Marries the painter Jeanne Bosc

1931 Made a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London
